Search backrooms — outside rooms and rooms in a yard, rented as their own place. Not the same as a room share.

A backroom is a room on someone else's property — an outside room, a room in the yard, a converted garage — rented as its own place with its own entrance.
Not the same as a room share. A room share means renting a bedroom inside a house or flat that you share with other people. A backroom is a separate room of your own. They are different listing types on Liivra and they are searched separately.
Backrooms are listed apart from flats and houses because looking for one is a different search. You are usually looking close to where you already are, you need it soon, and the thing that wastes your time most is travelling out to a room that was taken weeks ago.
What you get
- Every room has a real photo. A room cannot be published without one, so you are not scrolling past blank listings.
- Availability is confirmed by the owner, not assumed from the listing date. Owners are asked to reconfirm periodically, and rooms that have not been confirmed recently stop showing as available.
- Rent and suburb up front, so you can rule a room out before contacting anyone.
Searching
Search by suburb and filter by price. Backrooms sit in their own listing type, so a backroom search returns backrooms — not one-bedroom flats priced like rooms, and not room shares.
Contacting the owner
Send a request from the room. It reaches the owner attached to that specific room, which matters when they are renting out several in the same yard — your message does not arrive as an anonymous "is it still available?" with no context.
Owners can reply in the app or over WhatsApp; either way the conversation stays linked to the room.
Before you travel
Two things worth checking before spending money on transport:
- Is the availability recently confirmed? That is the signal the owner has actively said it is still open.
- Has the owner replied to your request? A reply is stronger evidence than a listing being up.
